Electrician Dies After Falling 800ft

A worker has fallen to his death from an under construction skyscraper onto the boot of a passing car in Los Angeles.

The electrician, who was only on his day of work on the project, plunged some 800ft from the Wilshire Grand Center in the Financial District of the West Coast city.

The man fell from the 53rd floor of the complex, which, when completed, will be LA’s tallest building at 73 storeys and 1,099ft.

The incident occurred during one busiest times of the day in the traffic-heavy city.

Crowds are believed to have gathered after the man struck the rear of a vehicle.

The woman who was driving the car did not appear to be seriously hurt but was taken to hospital, city fire officials said.

It is reported that the man was not supposed to be above the third floor of the project.

Lisa Gritzner, a spokeswoman for Turner Construction, said he had not been issued a safety harness because his work did not require it.

She added that all safety protocols were followed by the company.

“Our hearts go out to the family of the deceased. We are also sending our deepest sympathies to our loyal and dedicated workers, for whom today’s tragedy is deeply saddening,” the company added to the Los Angeles Times.

The billion-dollar (£690 million) office and hotel tower is being developed by Korean Airlines is expected to open early next year.
