Lupita Nyong'o revealed that she was stood up by her high school prom dateThe Oscar-winning actress recalled the upsetting story during an appearance on U.S. chat showLate Nightwith Seth Meyers on Monday night (14.03.16).Lupita, who grew up in Kenya, said she"gathered up the guts" to ask a guy to the dance - he lived in her neighbourhood and she thought he was "so cute"."I didn't talk to him much at all, but I asked him to prom," she laughed.“I asked him to go and he was like, 'Sure sure sure'. I told him what the colour schemewas, because I was designing my own dress and everything.”The 33-year-old, who looked stunning in a red satin trouser suit and matching crop top,then revealed that sadly her date did not show up at the party and she was left to dance alone"I think it scared him because I was going towear red and yellow, and maybe he didn't have a red suit," she joked, adding, "And I was on the committee to make it happen andeverything like that."Seth comforted Lupita playfully by saying, “Well hopefully he regretted it, but I do think there is a lesson out there for young girls and that’s not red and yellow.”Getting dates is not a problem for the beautiful star these days - she's fluent in fourlanguages, graduated with a master's degree in drama from Yale School of Drama and isa cover girl for Lancome.Lupita is also currently starring in the Broadway showEclipsedin New York, which tells the tale of five women brought together by upheaval in their homeland of Liberia.Her Broadway debut comes after a busy schedule completing recent film projects.
