5. David Alaba, $32m
The Bayern Munich starter is left-back by name, as Alaba’s versatility entails he can play across the defence, and even the midfield! Aside from his exemplary defensive contributions, Alaba is also worthy of set-piece goals and spot-kicks, highlighted by the beauty he scored against Arsenal recently.
The Austrian was picked out from Bayern’s impressive youth academy in 2008, and he rose up the ranks to become a starter for the German giants a year ago. Pep Guardiola will be happy he has such a talent on his hands.
4. James Rodriguez, $39.2m

Real Madrid’s hesitancy in attack whenever James is injured, goes to show how valuable he has become to their side. The Monaco attacking-midfielder shone for Colombia in the World Cup, winning the Golden Boot despite his team getting knocked out in the quarter-final!
A move to Madrid in the subsequent summer for €100m didn’t disappoint, as Rodriguez helped Ancelotti win Real’s 10th Champions League title, and the Copa del Rey.
3. Neymar, $50m
With 6 goals and 6 assists in his last eight games, Neymar has gone a long way to pacify worried Barcelona supporters over Lionel Messi’s prolonged injury. The Brazilian moved to Camp Nou amidst controversial monetary circumstances, but has done his talking on the pitch by being a regular starter for the club, shooing Alexis Sanchez and Pedro to the Premier League.
He seemed to step his game up a notch after a successful 2014 World Cup with his home country, and looks a special talent, at merely 24.
2. Mario Gotze, $54.9m
Forever etched into the fond memories of Germans will doubtless be Gotze, whose last-minute goal against Argentina won them the World Cup. Mario always seemed destined for greater things as such, since his exciting talent was displayed at Borussia Dortmund.
He made a controversial move to Bayern, but despite finding his playing time curtailed, Gotze’s staggering potential hasn’t rested. It remains to be seen whether he can shake off his injury woes and go back to being a reliable player for Guardiola. However, for now, he seems like one of the best players in the world.
1. Paul Pogba, $68.6m
France’s Paul Pogba’s rise to fame is there for all to see. From being on the bench at Old Trafford to ruling the midfields of Serie A and the World Cup, Pogba is now wanted by top clubs around the globe, including Barcelona, Bayern Munich and Manchester City.
With pace, power, skills and surreal precision in his locker, it is hard to believe the Juventus man is only 22 years old. After exhibiting his worth in the World Cup, Pogba came two inches close to winning the treble with Juventus. And for a man with such exciting raw potential, there’s no denying Paul deserves that.
